Heads Up: Are you Developing “Text Neck”?

 The human head weighs about a 10 lbs. But as the neck bends forward and down, the weight on the head begins to increase. Every inch your ear is in front of your shoulders add 10 lbs of pressure to your back muscles. So if your head is 5 inches in front of your shoulders that add 50 lbs of pressure to your back muscles. Over time this not only tightens your back up, but it puts pressure on your nerves and causes arthritis in your neck!

New research published by Kenneth Hansraj in the National Library of Medicine which will appear next month in Surgical Technology International, shows that over time, poor posture from staring at smartphones will cause “text neck”, clinically known as Anterior Head Translation (AHT) which can lead to early wear-and-tear on the spine, degeneration and even surgery when gone untreated.

“Poor posture can cause other problems as well. Experts say it can reduce lung capacity by as much as 30 percent. It has also been linked to headaches and neurological issues, depression and heart disease.

​Posture ranks right up at the top of the list when you are talking about good health. It is as important as eating right, exercising, and getting proper rest.”

A recent randomized control study done on 40 patients who had Anterior Head Translation (Text Neck) as well as arthritis and pinched nerves in the neck and arms showed improvements in neck pain and arm pain after ten weeks of chiropractic care.

Patients that received chiropractic plus traction also showed significant improvement in nerve function and posture. These improvements were maintained at the one year follow up.

Dr Tickel’s Blue Mountain Bucha Recipe

Homemade Kombucha Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 SCOBY (you can purchase this at a local health food store). I bought mine at Rebecca’s #Rebeccasnaturalfood @Rebeccasnaturalfood

  • 4 green tea bags (I used organic)

  • 1 cup organic sugar

  • 1 gallon of water

Instructions

  1. Boil 64 oz of water (8 cups) in a large pot.

  2. Add 4 green tea bags and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags.

  3. Add 1 cup of sugar and stir well.

  4. Allow the tea to come to room temperature and pour into a clean one-gallon mason jar or crock.

  5. Add 64 oz more water to the jar and place the SCOBY (along with any KT it came with) into the jar.

  6. Cover with cheesecloth or towel, and secure with a rubber band.

  7. Allow the homemade kombucha to ferment in a dark place (mine was in the pantry) for 7-10 days. Remove the scoby and store it in a glass container for you next batch. After this add a cup of organic fruit or berries. I strained the kombucha and fruit before bottling to get rid of any pulp. Bottle in tight sealed glass bottle or jar. Let it sit at room temp for 3 more days and then put it in the fridge to cool. Then enjoy!
